Atosiban is an active substance in a tocolytic drug known commercially as Tractocile.
This injectable drug is indicated for premature labor, since its action consists of binding to oxytocin receptors, decreasing the frequency of contractions and the tone of uterine muscles.

Contraindications for Atosiban
Hypersensitivity to the product; gestational age below 24 or over 33 complete weeks; premature rupture of membranes with gestational age greater than 30 weeks; delayed intrauterine growth and abnormal fetal heart rate; intrauterine hemorrhage requiring immediate delivery; severe eclampsia and pre-eclampsia requiring delivery; intrauterine fetal death; placenta previa; placental abruption; conditions where continuity of pregnancy is dangerous for the mother or fetus.
How to Use Atosiban
Injectable Use
Adults
- Initial dose: Administer direct intravenous, 6.75 mg (1 ampoule of 0.9 mL). 2nd phase: Administer 18 mg / hour (24 mL / hour) for 3 hours. 3rd phase: Administer 6 mg / hour (8 mL / hour) for up to 45 hours.
Treatment should not exceed 48 hours. The infusion can be stopped when the contractions stop.
