Medroxyprogesterone acetate, sold commercially under the name Provera, is a hormonal medication in pill form, which can be used to treat secondary amenorrhea, intermenstrual bleeding and as part of hormone replacement during menopause.
This medicine is produced by the Pfizer laboratory, and can be found in doses of 2.5 mg, 5 mg or 10 mg, containing packs of 14 tablets.

Indications
The use of Provera tablets is recommended in case of secondary amenorrhea, in case of uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance, and in hormonal replacement at menopause, as a complement to estrogenic therapy.
How to use
Follow the gynecologist's instructions, which may be:
- Secondary amenorrhea: Take 2.5 to 10 mg daily for 5 to 10 days; Vaginal bleeding due to hormonal imbalance: Take 2.5 to 10 mg daily for 5 to 10 days; Hormone therapy in menopause: Take 2.5 to 5.0 mg daily, or Take 5 to 10 mg daily for 10 to 14 days every 28 days or every monthly cycle.
What to do if you forget to take
If you forget to take a pill at the correct time, you should take the forgotten pill as soon as you remember, unless you are very close to taking your next dose. In this case, the forgotten tablet should be discarded, just taking the next dose. It does not hurt to take 2 tablets on the same day, as long as they are not taken at the same time.
Main side effects
Headache, abdominal pain, weakness, abnormal vaginal bleeding, menstruation stop, dizziness, swelling, fluid retention, weight gain, insomnia, nervousness, depression, acne, hair loss, excess hair, itchy skin may appear, fluid out of the nipples and resistance to glucose.
Contraindications
Its use is contraindicated in pregnancy, acute liver disease, undiagnosed uterine or genital bleeding, if you have or have ever had thrombophlebitis; if you have, have had or are suspected of having breast cancer. It should also not be used and in case of severe changes in the liver, such as cirrhosis or the presence of a tumor, if you have a miscarriage, if you suspect a malignant disease in the genitals, if you have vaginal bleeding of unknown origin, and in case of allergy to some component of the medicine.
