Losna is a medicinal plant, also known as Wormwood, Weed, Alenjo, Santa-daisy-daisy, Sintro or Worm-Weed, widely used to help lower fever or to complement treatment against worms.
The medicinal plant is a type of Artemisia that has an intensely bitter taste and can be used to combat intestinal worms and improve digestion, being native to Europe. It has yellow flowers and the shrub can reach up to 90 cm in height, its leaves are aromatic and can be used in hedges. Its scientific name is Artemisia absinthium and the parts used are the leaves and the upper parts of the flowers, which can be used in the form of tea, tincture, compress or fluid extract.
Indications
It serves to fight worms, to fight bad digestion, to favor uterine contraction, being useful to lower menstruation in case of delay of having anti-inflammatory action, and also improves the body's natural defenses and cleans and detoxifies the liver. It can also be used to increase appetite, fight heartburn, acidity, nausea, vomiting, flatulence. It can be taken on an empty stomach to fight pinworms and for its antibiotic action can be used in case of food poisoning. As it stimulates the brain it can be used to fight neuralgia, depression and nervous breakdown. Because it is anti-inflammatory it is useful for arthritis or osteoarthritis.
It can also be used externally to fight fleas and lice and the skin can be indicated to treat ringworm, diaper dermatitis, athlete's foot, furuncle, hair loss, bruises and sprains.
Medicinal properties
Absinthe has tonic, vermifuge, uterine stimulant, collagogue, anti-inflammatory properties, stimulates the liver and the immune system.
How to use
- Tincture: Put 1 drop of this tincture directly on the tongue to stimulate digestion and fight the urge to eat sweets, especially chocolate. Compress: Wet a gauze with tea and place on the skin area you want to treat, being very useful in case of insect bite or scratch. Fluid extract: Take 2 ml (40 drops) diluted in fasting water to eliminate worms. Take every 15 days, for a few months or as usual.
Main side effects
Worm can cause abdominal cramps, bleeding and increased pressure.
Contraindications
It should not be used during pregnancy as it can cause miscarriage, even in case of high blood pressure. In the form of tea it should not be used for more than 4 consecutive weeks, unless indicated by a doctor.
