Utrogestan capsules can be used orally or vaginally, which will depend on the therapeutic purpose for which they are intended:
1. Oral use
Orally, this medicine is indicated for the treatment of:
- Ovulation disorders related to progesterone deficiency, such as pain and other changes in the menstrual cycle, secondary amenorrhea and benign breast changes; Luteal insufficiency; Progesterone deficiency states, for the treatment of menopausal hormone replacement in addition to estrogen therapy.

2. Vaginal route
Vaginally, Utrogestan is indicated for the treatment of:
- Ovarian insufficiency or complete ovarian deficiency in women with decreased ovarian function; Supplementation of the luteal phase, in some cases of infertility or for fertility treatments; Threat of early abortion or prevention of abortion due to luteal insufficiency during the first trimester.

How to use
Orally, the dosage of Utrogestan is as follows:
- Progesterone insufficiency: 200 to 300 mg per day; Luteal insufficiency, premenstrual syndrome, benign breast disease, irregular menstruation and premenopause: 200 mg in a single dose before bed or 100 mg two hours after a meal plus 200 mg at night, at bedtime, in a 10-day treatment regimen per cycle, from the 16th to the 25th day; Hormone replacement therapy for menopause in combination with estrogens: 100 mg at night before bed, 25 to 30 days per month or divided into two doses of 100 mg, 12 to 14 days per month or in a single dose of 200 mg at night, before bed, 12 to 14 days a month.
Vaginally, the dosage of Utrogestan is as follows:
- Progesterone support during ovarian insufficiency or deficiency in women with decreased ovarian function by donating oocytes: 200 mg from the 15th to the 25th day of the cycle, in a single dose or divided into two doses of 100 mg. From the 26th day of the cycle or in case of pregnancy, this dose can be increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day, divided into 3 doses up to the 12th week of pregnancy; Supplementation of the luteal phase during in vitro fertilization cycles or ICSI: 600 to 800 mg per day, divided into three or four doses, starting on the day of capture or on the day of transfer, until the 12th week of pregnancy; Supplementation of the luteal phase, in case of subfertility or infertility due to anovulation: 200 to 300 mg per day, divided into two doses, from the 16th day of the cycle, for 10 days. If menstruation does not occur again, treatment is restarted and must be continued until the 12th of pregnancy; Threat of early abortion or prevention of abortion due to luteal insufficiency: 200 to 400 mg per day, divided into two doses, until the 12th week of pregnancy.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects that may occur during treatment with Utrogestan are fatigue, edema, headache, changes in weight, changes in appetite, heavy vaginal bleeding, abdominal swelling, irregular menstrual period and drowsiness.
Who should not use
Utrogestan is contraindicated in people with cancer of the liver, breast or genitals, with undiagnosed genital bleeding, history of stroke, liver disease, incomplete abortion, thromboembolic diseases, thrombophlebitis, porphyria or who are hypersensitive to anyone components of the formula.
