- How the biological clock works
The chronotype refers to the differences in income that each individual has in relation to the periods of sleep and wakefulness throughout the 24 hours of the day.
People organize their lives and activities according to a 24-hour cycle, that is, with certain times of waking up, entering work or school, carrying out leisure activities and bedtime, and may have more or less income in certain hours of the day, which influence and are influenced by the biological cycle of each one.
There are periods of the day when a person's income is higher or lower, which has to do with their chronotype. Thus, people are classified according to their biological rhythms in the morning, intermediate and evening, according to the periods of sleep / wakefulness, also known as the circadian cycle, which they present 24 hours a day.
Types of biological clock
According to their biological clock, people can be classified as:
1. Morning or daytime
Morning people are individuals who prefer to wake up early and perform well in the activities that start in the morning, and generally have difficulty staying up late. These people feel sleepy earlier and find it difficult to stay properly focused at night. For these people working in shifts can be a nightmare because they are very stimulated by the brightness of the day.
These people represent about 10% of the world population.
2. Afternoon or evening
Afternoons are those people who are most productive at night or at dawn and who prefer to stay up late, and always go to sleep at dawn, having greater performance in their activities at that time.
Their sleep / wake cycle is more irregular and it is more difficult to concentrate during the morning, and they have greater attention problems and suffer more from emotional problems, needing to consume more caffeine throughout the day, to stay awake.
Afternoons represent about 10% of the world population.
3. Intermediate
Intermediaries or indifferent are those who adapt to schedules more easily in relation to morning and evening hours, with no preference for a specific time to study or work.
The majority of the population is intermediate, which means that most people are able to adjust to the schedules imposed by society, more easily than the evening and morning hours.
How the biological clock works
The biological clock is maintained by the person's own rhythm and by the imposition of society, with hours to work from 8 am to 6 pm for example, and to sleep from 11 pm.
What happens when daylight saving time enters may be indifferent for people with an intermediate chronotype, but it can cause some discomfort in those who are morning or afternoon. Usually after 4 days it is possible to be completely adapted to summer time, but for those who are morning or afternoon, more sleep, less willingness to work and to exercise in the morning, lack of hunger at mealtime and even malaise may arise..
