Tecentriq is an antineoplastic remedy that contains atezolizumab, a substance that weakens cancer cells and facilitates their destruction by the immune system.
This medicine is injectable and can only be used in the hospital with the guidance of a doctor, as it needs to be administered directly into the vein.
What is it for
Tecentriq is indicated to treat cases of advanced bladder cancer or metastasis, especially when the disease has worsened after starting chemotherapy.
How to use
This medicine should only be administered at the hospital every 3 weeks, at a dose of 1200 mg for 60 minutes. If after the first use of the medicine, no side effects appear, the following doses can be administered in just 30 minutes.
To prepare Tecentriq you must:
- Remove 20 mL of the medicine from the bottle, using a sterile syringe and needle; Place the medicine in a 250 mL bottle of saline; Shake the bottle slightly to mix.
Depending on the age of each person and the severity of the disease, the dose can be adjusted by the oncologist.
Possible side effects
Some of the most common side effects of using this remedy include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, excessive tiredness, fever, recurrent urinary tract infection, joint pain, blood in the urine, shortness of breath, cough and allergy in the skin.
Who should not use
There are no contraindications for Tecentriq, however, it should only be used with the guidance of an oncologist specialized in the treatment of bladder cancer.
