Liposuction is a plastic surgery indicated to remove excess fat located in a certain area of the body such as the belly, thighs, flanks, back or arms, for example, helping to improve the body contour.
This type of aesthetic procedure can be performed by both men and women and it is important that it be done by a reliable plastic surgeon and under appropriate conditions of hygiene and safety.
How to prepare for surgery
Before performing liposuction, it is important that some tests are performed to check the person's health status and reduce the risk of complications, with cardiac tests, imaging tests, urine tests and blood tests being indicated. In addition, it may be recommended by the doctor that a liquid diet be eaten in the two days prior to surgery and that the person be fasted for approximately 8 hours before the procedure. It is also important to report any health problems to the doctor, including colds and flu, as in this case it may be necessary to take other measures so that there is no interference during recovery.
How liposuction is done
In case the person is able to perform the surgery, the plastic surgeon indicates the administration of the anesthesia, which can be general or intravenous sedation, and as the anesthesia is taking effect, the area is delimited and the removal will be made. of fat. Then, small holes are made in the region to be treated so that a sterile liquid is introduced to reduce bleeding and a thin tube is introduced to loosen excess fat in the region. From the moment the fat is released, it is aspirated through a medical device attached to the thin tube.
Liposuction is an aesthetic procedure that can be performed when it is not possible to eliminate localized fat through diet or physical exercise, being indicated for both men and women. The duration of the surgery depends on the area and the amount of fat to be aspirated, and can vary from a few minutes to a few hours. Check out other indications of liposuction.
In addition to removing fat, during liposuction the doctor can also perform liposculpture, which consists of using the removed fat and placing it elsewhere in the body, in order to improve the body contour. Thus, in the same surgery, it is possible to remove localized fat from the belly and then place it on the butt to increase the volume, for example, without the need to use silicone implants.
Results of liposuction
After surgery, the patient has a more outlined body, in addition to losing some weight, due to the removal of localized fat, resulting in a more beautiful and slim body. However, after approximately 1 month of liposuction, the results can be better observed, as the person is no longer swollen, and the definitive results only begin to appear after 6 months.
This cosmetic surgery practically leaves no scars, because small holes are made in places where it is difficult to be seen, such as in the folds or inside the navel and, therefore, it is an excellent solution for those who want to lose localized fat fast.
Care in the recovery of liposuction
Right after the surgery, it is normal for the area to become sore and swollen, and for that, you should take the medications indicated by the doctor in order to reduce the pain and discomfort. In addition, it is further recommended:
- Walk slowly for 10 minutes 2 times a day, up to 7 days after surgery; Stay with the brace or restraint socks all day and all night for 3 days, without ever taking it off, being able to take it off only to sleep at the end of 15 days; Bathing after 3 days, removing the bandages and drying the scars well and placing povidone iodine and a band-aid under the stitches, according to the doctor's recommendation; Take stitches at the doctor after 8 days.
In addition, it is important to take the pain medication and antibiotics indicated by the doctor and avoid sleeping on the site that was aspirated. See more about the care that should be taken in the postoperative period of liposuction.
