Indications
Clodronate is indicated for the treatment of multiple myeloma, excess calcium in the blood due to malignant tumors or bone metastases, bone dissolution due to metastases of breast, prostate or thyroid cancer.
How to use
The use of this medicine can be done orally, and 1600 mg is usually recommended in a single dose or divided into two doses. However, it should not be taken with milk or eat an hour before or an hour after taking the medication.
The medicine can also be used as an injection, the normal daily dose being 300 mg, through an infusion into the vein.
Side effects
Some side effects of Clodronate include decreased calcium in the blood, elimination of protein in the urine, hypersensitivity in the skin, acute renal failure, nausea and vomiting.
Contraindications
This medicine should not be used in pregnancy, breastfeeding, acute inflammation of the stomach or intestines and decreased kidney function.
