Olmetec is an antihypertensive remedy that contains olmesartan medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist substance that relaxes blood vessels, reducing blood pressure. Thus, this medication is usually used in cases of high blood pressure.
This medicine can be purchased in conventional pharmacies in the dosage of 10, 20 or 40 mg, according to the doctor's recommendation.
How to take
The use of Olmetec is usually started by taking 1 tablet of 10 mg once a day. However, if this dose is not enough to keep the pressure under control, the doctor may increase the dose to 20 or 40 mg, once a day, for example.
The tablets can be taken with or without food and should not be broken or cut.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects of Olmetec include dizziness, headache, nausea, poor digestion, diarrhea, stomach pain, tiredness, cough, chest pain, swelling of the ankles and legs, blood in the urine or joint pain.
In rarer cases, other effects may appear, such as a rapid decrease in blood pressure, feeling sick, dizziness, vomiting, muscle pain and itchy skin.
Who should not take
Olmetec is contraindicated for pregnant women with more than 3 months of gestation or people with diabetes, kidney problems, yellowish skin and eyes or allergy to any of the components of the formula.
In addition, it should be used with caution in those who have liver disease, heart failure, increased blood potassium levels or problems with the adrenal glands.
