Mianserin is an oral antidepressant with strong sedative action. Commercially, this medicine can be found as Tolvon and does not have a generic version.
Indications
Mental depression.
Side effects
Blood changes; bone marrow depression; swelling; drop in blood pressure; breast enlargement; convulsion; hypomanic crisis in patients with bipolar depression; joint pain.
Contraindications
Pregnancy; breast-feeding; manic phase of bipolar disorder; schizophrenia.
How to use
This medicine should be taken whole and never chewed.
Children: doses not established.
Adults: start therapy with 30 mg in a single dose at bedtime and adjust the dose according to the clinical response. Maintenance between 30 and 90 mg per day.
