Norestin contraceptive

Anonim

Norestin is a contraceptive that contains the substance norethisterone, a type of progestogen that acts on the body like the hormone progesterone, which is produced naturally by the body at certain times in the menstrual cycle. This hormone is able to prevent the formation of new eggs by the ovaries, preventing a possible pregnancy.

This type of birth control pill is generally used by breastfeeding women, as it does not prevent the production of breast milk, as is the case with pills with estrogens. However, it can also be recommended for those who have a history of embolism or cardiovascular problems, for example.

Price and where to buy

Norestin can be purchased at conventional pharmacies with a prescription for an average price of 7 reais for each pack of 35 0.35 mg tablets.

How to take

The first Norestin pill should be taken on the first day of menstruation and after that it should be taken every day at the same time, without pausing between packs. Thus, the new card must start on the day immediately after the end of the previous one. Any forgetfulness or delay in taking the pill can result in an increased risk of becoming pregnant.

In special situations, this pill should be taken as follows:

  • Changing contraceptives

The first Norestin pill should be taken the day after the previous contraceptive pack is finished. In these cases, a change in the menstrual period may occur, which may become irregular for a short period of time.

  • Use after delivery

After delivery, Norestin can be used immediately by those who do not wish to breastfeed. Women who want to breastfeed should only use this pill 6 weeks after delivery.

  • Use after abortion

After an abortion, the Norestin birth control pill should only be used on the day after the abortion. In these cases, for 10 days there is a risk of a new pregnancy and, therefore, other contraceptive methods should also be used.

What to do in case of forgetfulness, diarrhea or vomiting

In case of forgetting up to 3 hours after the usual time, take the forgotten pill, take the next one at normal time and use another contraceptive method, such as a condom, up to 48 hours after forgetting.

If vomiting or diarrhea occurs within 2 hours of taking Norestin, the effectiveness of the contraceptive may be affected and, therefore, it is only recommended to use another contraceptive method within 48 hours. The pill should not be repeated and the next one should be taken at the usual time.

Possible side effects

Like any other contraceptive, Norestin can cause side effects such as headache, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, breast tenderness, tiredness or weight gain.

Who should not take

Norestin is contraindicated for pregnant women and women with suspected breast cancer or who have abnormal vaginal bleeding. In addition, it should also not be used in cases of suspected allergy to any of the components of the medicine.
