Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by the genus Candida, usually treated with antifungal drugs, which can be used in the form of cream, eggs or pills, upon medical advice. When the person has symptoms such as severe itching, redness or whitish discharge, in the case of genital candidiasis, it is likely to have candidiasis, but only the doctor can confirm this diagnosis.

Difference between remedies for candidiasis in men and women
If it is a vaginal infection in women, the creams used must come with an applicator, so that they are applied internally in the vagina. Alternatively there are also eggs, which should be applied as deeply as possible to the vagina, at night before bedtime. In the case of a genital infection in men, also known as balanitis, applicators are not necessary, because these products are applied superficially to the penis.
Generally, vaginal creams are applied at night, once a day, inside the vagina. In men, the cream should be applied to the entire penis, two to three times a day, after performing intimate hygiene.
Oral administration pills for candidiasis are the same for both sexes and are generally used in more severe cases, as they are more effective, as they work in a systemic way. However, they are likely to cause more side effects than topical antifungals. Generally, the doctor prescribes fluconazole in a single dose, and in some situations, to reduce the incidence of recurrent vaginal candidiasis, recommend one capsule of fluconazole per month.
Medicine for candidiasis in pregnancy
The drugs that are considered safest in pregnancy are topical clotrimazole and nystatin, however, should only be used if recommended by the doctor. Pregnant women should avoid using applicators that may injure the cervix or use them with caution. Alternatively, they can use antifungals in a vaginal tablet or vaginal egg without an applicator.
To complement the treatment with drugs, patients must maintain good body hygiene, wear loose clothing and cotton and avoid consuming fatty or high sugar foods.

Some precautions in the treatment and prevention of candidiasis include:
- Have good body, genital and oral hygiene; Avoid intimate contact without a condom; Wear loose-fitting cotton clothing; Avoid unnecessary use of medicines, especially antibiotics; Drink plenty of fluids; Give preference to vegetables, fruits and vegetables; Avoid consumption of alcohol, sugar and fatty foods.
