Bazedoxifene is a medicine used to relieve symptoms after menopause, especially the heat that is felt in the face, neck and chest. This medication works by helping to restore adequate levels of estrogens in the body when treatment with progesterone is not adequate.
In addition, Bazedoxifene can also be used to treat common postmenopausal osteoporosis, reducing the risk of fractures, especially in the spine. It is still being studied as a way to prevent the growth of breast tumors, and may help in the treatment of breast cancer.
Price
Bazedoxifene has not yet been approved by Anvisa in Brazil, and can only be found in Europe or the United States under the trade names of Osakidetza, Duavee, Conbriza or Duavive, for example.
How to take
Bazedoxifene should only be used after menopause in women with a uterus, at least 12 months since their last menstrual period. The dose may vary in each case and, therefore, should be indicated by the doctor. However, the recommended dose in most cases is:
- 1 tablet daily with 20 mg of Bazedoxifene.
In case of forgetting, you should take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember, or take the next one if it is very close to the next time, avoiding taking two tablets in less than 6 hours.
Possible side effects
Some of the most common side effects of using this medication include frequent candidiasis, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, muscle spasms and increased triglycerides in the blood test.
Who should not take
Bazedoxifene is contraindicated for women with:
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the formula; Presence, suspicion or history of breast, endometrial or other estrogen-dependent cancer; Undiagnosed genital bleeding; Untreated uterine hyperplasia; History of thrombosis; Blood diseases; Liver disease; Porphyria.
In addition, it should not be used by women who are not yet in menopause, especially if there is a risk of pregnancy.
