Its active ingredient is canaquinumab, a substance that inhibits the action of an important protein in inflammatory processes, being therefore able to control and alleviate the symptoms of inflammatory diseases where there is excessive production of this protein.
Ilaris is a medicine produced by Novartis laboratories that can only be administered in the hospital and is therefore not available in pharmacies.

What it is indicated for
Ilaris is indicated for the treatment of periodic syndromes associated with cryopyrin, in adults and children, such as:
- Familial autoinflammatory syndrome triggered by cold, also called cold urticaria; Muckle-Wells syndrome; Multisystemic inflammatory disease of neonatal onset, also known as Chronic-infantile-neurological-cutaneous-articular syndrome.
In addition, this medication can also be used to treat systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children over 2 years old who have not had good results with treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and systemic corticosteroids.
How to use
Ilaris is injected into the fatty layer under the skin and can only be administered by a doctor or nurse at the hospital. The dose should be appropriate to the problem and the person's weight, the general guidelines being:
- 50 mg for patients over 40 kg. 2 mg / kg for patients weighing between 15 kg and 40 kg.
