Moxifloxacin

Moxifloxacin is the active substance in an antibacterial medicine known commercially as Avalox.

This medicine for oral and injectable use is indicated for the treatment of bronchitis and for infections in the skin, since its action consists in inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterium's DNA, which ends up eliminated from the organism, mitigating the symptoms of the infection.

Indications for Moxifloxacin

Chronic bronchitis; infection of the skin and soft tissues; intra-abdominal infection; sinusitis; pneumonia.

Oral use

Adults

• Chronic bronchitis (acute bacterial exacerbation): 400 mg once a day, for 5 days. Infection of the skin and soft tissues - uncomplicated: 400 mg once daily for 7 days; Complicated skin and soft tissue infection: 400 mg once daily for 7 to 21 days. Intra-abdominal infection: replacing the injectable treatment, 400 mg once a day, until completing 5 to 14 days of treatment (injectable + oral). Acquired pneumonia: 400 mg once a day, for 7 to 14 days. Acute bacterial sinusitis: 400 mg once a day, for 10 days.

Injectable Use

Adults

• Chronic bronchitis (acute bacterial exacerbation): 400 mg once a day, for 5 days. Infection of the skin and soft tissues - uncomplicated: 400 mg once daily for 7 days; Complicated: 400 mg once a day, for 7 to 21 days. Intra-abdominal infection: 400 mg once a day, for 5 to 14 days. When possible, intravenous treatment can be substituted for oral treatment. Acquired pneumonia: 400 mg once a day, for 7 to 14 days. Acute bacterial sinusitis: 400 mg once a day, for 10 days.
