Zolpidem is a remedy that acts on sleep centers, which are located in the brain, and is therefore indicated for the treatment of occasional, transient or chronic insomnia.
This medicine can be bought in pharmacies for a price of about 17 to 30 reais, if it is generic, and from 35 to 60 reais, if it is a brand name medication, known as Stilnox, and can only be obtained upon presentation of a prescription.
How to use
As this remedy works very quickly, it must be taken immediately before bedtime or in bed. Generally, the recommended dose is 1 tablet per day, for 2 to 5 days for occasional insomnia and 1 tablet for 2 to 3 weeks for transient insomnia.
For people over 65, with liver failure or who are weak, as they are generally more sensitive to the effects of zolpidem, it is recommended to take only half a tablet, which is equivalent to 5 mg per day.
Who should not use
Zolpidem should not be used in people who are hypersensitive to the active substance or any of the components in the formula. In addition, it is also contraindicated for people with severe or acute respiratory failure or with liver failure.
It should also not be used in children under 18 years of age and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects that can occur with the use of zolpidem are hallucinations, agitation, nightmares, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, exacerbated insomnia, anterograde amnesia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, back pain, tract infection lower and upper respiratory tract and tiredness.
