Piperazine is an anthelmintic that blocks the parasite's muscle response, paralyzing it and facilitating its elimination while still alive through the faeces.
Indications
Ascariasis; oxyuriasis.
Side effects
lack of appetite; nausea; vomiting.
Contraindications
Convulsion; hypersensitivity to piperazine; kidney or liver failure.
How to use
This oral medicine should be taken on an empty stomach. An hour before or 2 hours after a meal
Adults:
- oxyuriasis - 65 mg per kg of body weight per day, for 7 days. The maximum daily dose is 2.5 g. Ascariasis - 3.5 g in a single daily dose, for two consecutive days.
Children:
- Oxyuriasis - 65 mg per kg of body weight per day, for 7 days. The maximum daily dose is 2.5 g. Ascariasis - 0.75 g per kg of body weight per day, in a single daily dose, for two consecutive days. The maximum daily dose is 3.5 g.
