Rosuvastatin calcium

Rosuvastatin calcium is the generic name of the reference drug sold commercially as Crestor.

This medication is a fat reducer, which when used continuously reduces the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, when diet and physical activity are not enough to reduce or control cholesterol.

Rosuvastatin calcium is marketed by Laboratories, such as: Medley, EMS, Sandoz, Libbs, Ache, Germed, among others. It is found in concentrations of 10 mg, 20 mg or 40 mg, as a coated tablet.

Rosuvastatin calcium acts by inhibiting the functioning of an enzyme called HMG-CoA, which is essential for the synthesis of cholesterol. The effects of the drug begin to be seen after 4 weeks of taking the drug, and the levels of fat remain low if the treatment is done properly.

Indications for Rosuvastatin calcium

Reduction of high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides (hyperlipidemia; hypercholesterolemia; dyslipidemia; hypertriglyceridemia); Slow fat accumulation in blood vessels.

Side effects of Rosuvastatin calcium

Headache, muscle pain, general feeling of weakness, constipation, dizziness, nausea and abdominal pain. Itching, rash and allergic skin reactions. Disease of the muscular system, including myositis - inflammation of a muscle, angioedema - swelling inflammation of the pancreas and increased liver enzymes in the blood. Joint pain, jaundice (presence of yellow skin and eyes), hepatitis (inflammation of the liver) and memory loss. Proteinuria (loss of protein through urine) has been observed in a small number of patients. Adverse events pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx) and other respiratory events such as infections of the upper airways, rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal mucosa accompanied by phlegm) and sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses) have also been reported.

Contraindications for Rosuvastatin calcium
