Secnidazole is a remedy for worms that kills and eliminates intestinal worms, being useful to eliminate various types of worms that cause infections such as amoebiasis, giardiasis or trichomoniasis, for example.
This remedy can be purchased at conventional pharmacies under the trade name Secnidal, Tecnid, Unigyn, Decnazol or Secnimax for a price of around 13 to 24 reais.
What is it for
This remedy is indicated to treat:
- Giardiasis: caused by the parasite Giardia lamblia ; Intestinal amebiasis: caused by the presence of amoebae in the intestine; Trichomoniasis: caused by the worm Trichomonas vaginalis .
In addition, this medicine can also be used to treat liver amebiasis, which occurs when there are amoebas in the liver.
This medicine can be taken by everyone every 6 months as a form of treatment against worms. Children, the elderly and people who eat outside the home frequently have the most intestinal worms and therefore should take this type of medication regularly throughout their lives.
How to take
This medication should be administered with liquid, orally, in one of the meals, preferably in the evening, after dinner. The dose varies according to the problem to be treated and age:
Adults
- Trichomoniasis: administer 2 g of Secnidazole in a single dose. The same dose should be taken by the spouse; Intestinal amebiasis and Giardiasis: administer 2 g of Secnidazole in a single dose; Hepatic amebiasis: administer 1.5 g to 2 g of Secnidazole, 3 times a day. The treatment should last for 5 to 7 days.
Children
- Intestinal amebiasis and Giardiasis: administer 30 mg of Secnidazole per Kg of body weight, in a single dose; Hepatic amebiasis: administer 30 mg of Secnidazole per kg of body weight, per day, for 5 to 7 days.
In any case, treatment should always be guided by a doctor to ensure that the dose used is adequate and that the worms are eliminated.
During treatment, alcoholic beverages should be avoided until at least 4 days after the end of the tablets.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects include fever, redness and itchy skin, nausea, pain in the stomach and changes in taste.
Who should not take
This medicine is contraindicated during the first 3 months of pregnancy, during breastfeeding and for people with allergies to any of the components of the formula.
