Zaleplon is a hypnotic remedy, used for a short period of time to treat individuals who have difficulty falling asleep and is indicated only when the disorder leads the individual to great suffering.
Zaleplon is sold commercially under the name of Sonata and should only be used by adults.
Indications for Zaleplon (Sonata)
Zaleplon is indicated for the treatment of patients with insomnia who have difficulty falling asleep and is indicated only when the disorder is very serious, being incapacitating and leading the individual to a great suffering, for not being able to sleep.
How to use Zaleplon (Sonata)
The way to use Zaleplon is to take 10 mg, before going to bed. However, in the elderly, only 5 mg per night is recommended.
The medication should only be used for a maximum duration of 2 weeks and should not be taken with food, and the total daily dose of medication should not exceed 10 mg in any patient.
Side effects of Zaleplon (Sonata)
Side effects of Zaleplon include amnesia, drowsiness, tingling, menstrual cramps, nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, depression or weakness.
Contraindications for Zaleplon (Sonata)
Zaleplon is contraindicated in children and patients with liver, kidney, sleep apnea, myasthenia gravis, severe respiratory failure or hypersensitivity to any component of the formula. It should not be taken by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or by people under the age of 18.
