Thames 20 is a combined contraceptive pill that contains 75 mcg gestodene and 20 mcg ethinyl estradiol, two synthetic female hormones that prevent the development of a pregnancy. In addition, this pill also helps to reduce the intensity of bleeding and is recommended for women suffering from iron deficiency anemia.
This contraceptive can be purchased in conventional pharmacies with a prescription, in the form of boxes with 1 or 3 cartons of pills, each carton corresponding to one month.
Price
The price of thames 20 is approximately 20 reais for the box of 21 pills, while the box of 63 pills, which gives for 3 months, costs about 50 reais.
How to take
One tablet should be taken daily for 21 consecutive days, preferably at the same time. After the 21 tablets, a 7-day break should be taken, during which menstruation will occur. After the pause, the new pack should start on the eighth day, regardless of whether menstrual bleeding has occurred or not.
If it is the first time to take this contraceptive, the following guidelines should be followed:
- When another hormonal contraceptive was not used: take the first pill on the 1st day of menstruation; When changing pills: take the 1st tablet right after finishing the previous pack, without pausing; When using an IUD, hormone implant or injection: take the first tablet on the date scheduled for the next IUD injection or removal or implant;
To make it easier to use, the pill has inscriptions on the back of each day of the week, which help to know which pill to take next, and for that, follow the direction of the arrows, until you finish with all the pills.
What to do if you forget to take
In case of forgetting up to 12 hours after normal hours, take the forgotten tablet as soon as you remember, without the need to use another form of contraception.
If you forget more than 12 hours, you should take the tablet as soon as you remember and use another contraceptive method for 7 days, such as a condom or diaphragm, especially if the forgetfulness happened in the first or second week of using the pack.
