Ganciclovir is an antiviral known commercially as Cymevene.
It is an oral and injectable drug, used to treat infections caused by cytomegalovirus and the herpes virus.
Ganciclovir also helps prevent infections in individuals who have received bone or bone marrow transplants.
Indications for Ganciclovir
Eye infections; carriers of the AIDS virus; weak immune system;
Side effects of Ganciclovir
Mental confusion; Headache; allergies at the injection site.
Contraindications for Ganciclovir
Pregnancy risk C; lactating women, hypersensitive to Ganciclovir.
How to use Ganciclovir
Oral use
Adults
- Administer 1, 000 mg 3 times a day.
Patients with kidney problems
- Administer 1, 000 mg 3 times a day or 500 mg 6 times a day.
Children
- Doses not established
Injectable use
Adults
- Administer 5 mg for each individual kg for 1 hour, 2 times a day. This procedure must be repeated for 21 days.
