Intrinsa is the trade name for testosterone skin patches that is used to increase pleasure in women. This testosterone replacement therapy for women allows natural testosterone levels to return to normal, thereby helping to restore libido.
Intrinsa, produced by the pharmaceutical company Procter & Gamble, treats women with sexual dysfunction by introducing testosterone through the skin. Women who have had their ovaries removed produce less testosterone and estrogen, which can cause decreased desire and reduce sexual thoughts and arousal. This condition can be known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder.
Indications
Treatment of low sexual desire in women up to the age of 60 years; women who have had both their ovaries and their uterus removed (surgically induced menopause) and who are taking estrogen replacement therapy.
How to use
Only one patch should be applied at a time, and should be placed on clean, dry skin and on the lower abdomen below the waist. The patch should not be applied to the breasts or the bottom. Lotions, creams or powders should not be applied to the skin before applying the patch, as these can prevent correct adherence of the medication.
The patch must be changed every 3-4 days, which means that you will use two patches each week, that is, the patch will remain on the skin for three days and the other will remain for four days.
Side effects
Skin irritation at the site of application of the system; acne; excessive growth of facial hair; migraine; worsening of the voice; breast pain; weight gain; hair loss; difficulty sleeping increased sweating; anxiety; nasal congestion; dry mouth; increased appetite; double vision; vaginal burning or itching; enlargement of the clitoris; palpitations.
Contraindications
Women with a known, suspected or history of breast cancer; in any form of cancer that is caused or stimulated by the female hormone estrogen; pregnancy; breast-feeding; in natural menopause (women who still have their ovaries and uterus intact); women taking conjugated equine estrogens.
Use with caution in: heart disease; high blood pressure (hypertension); diabetes; liver disease; kidney disease; history of adult acne; hair loss, enlarged clitoris, deeper voice or hoarseness.
In cases of diabetes, the dose of insulin or anti-diabetic pills may need to be reduced after starting treatment with this medicine.
