Lovastatin is a cholesterol-lowering drug known commercially as Lipoclin.
This medication for oral use in addition to reducing LDL, also called bad cholesterol and to a lesser extent triglycerides, also increases HDL or good cholesterol a little.
Indications for Lovastatin
High cholesterol.
Side Effects of Lovastatin
Headache; gases; diarrhea; constipation; nausea; vomiting; malaise; fever.
Contraindications for Lovastatin
Pregnant or lactating women; active liver disease or unexplained increase; hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.
How to use Lovastatin
Oral use
Adults
- Start treatment with 20 mg daily, in a single dose. The maximum daily dose is 80 mg. Dosage adjustment, if necessary, should be done at 4-week intervals.
