Swollen legs are usually caused by the accumulation of fluids in the region, which arises naturally with aging, as the arteries in the legs lose their strength to push blood back to the heart. Thus, this problem is more common after the age of 30, at the end of the day, especially in people who work for several hours standing or sitting, for example.
One of the best ways to relieve this discomfort is to simply raise your legs at the end of the day or massage them towards the heart, to facilitate blood circulation and prevent it from continuing to accumulate in your legs. However, there are also some remedies that, when used during the day, allow you to reduce the degree of swelling at the end of the day.
1. Ginger tea
Ginger tea is a great natural diuretic that allows you to increase the amount of urine eliminated during the day, decreasing the fluid load in the circulatory system. In addition, this tea also helps to dilute the sodium concentration in the body, which is a major cause of swelling in the legs and feet.
Ingredients
- 4 to 6 slices of 0.5 cm of ginger; 1 cup of water; juice of 1 lemon.
How to prepare and take
Peel the ginger slices and cut them into smaller pieces. Then add the ginger in a pan with the cup of water and boil for 10 minutes. Finally, remove from heat, let cool and strain.
This tea should be drunk 2 to 3 times during the day, especially in the morning and early afternoon, in order to allow the increased elimination of urine not to affect bedtime.
2. Parsley infusion
In addition to being a strong natural diuretic, parsley also helps in the health of the kidneys, allowing to eliminate excess fluids and toxins from the body more quickly. In addition, it also decreases the concentration of salt in the body, which prevents fluids from accumulating so quickly.
Ingredients
- 1 handful of parsley, 1 cup of boiling water.
How to prepare and take
Cut the parsley into small pieces and add to the cup of boiling water, allowing to stand for 5 to 7 minutes. Then strain the parsley leaves and let cool.
Ideally, this infusion should be taken warm, up to 3 times a day, to ensure better results.
3. Scald feet with Epsom salts
This remedy is very easy to prepare and allows you to relieve swelling quickly at the end of the day, and it can be done before a leg massage, for example.
In addition, Epsom salts have magnesium sulfate which is easily absorbed by the skin, facilitating blood circulation in the legs and feet. So when this scalding is done frequently it helps to strengthen the legs and reduce the appearance of swelling over time.
Ingredients
- ½ cup of Epsom salts; 2 to 3 liters of water.
How to prepare and use
Place the Epsom salts in a bowl or bucket of warm water. The amount of water must be sufficient to cover the feet and reach at least the middle of the calf. Dilute the salts well, stirring the water by hand.
Finally, put your feet in the water for about 15 minutes. Repeat this process up to 3 times a week.
4. Contrast bath
Who does not have Epsom salt can opt for this scalding feet, simpler which consists of a 'thermal shock' which is also very efficient. See in the video how to do it with the physiotherapist Marcelle Pinheiro:
5. Lemon water
The lemon has excellent properties that help the body to eliminate excess fluids and toxins from the body, allowing to relieve the appearance of swelling. In addition, it is a potent anti-inflammatory and therefore can also help treat swelling caused by small bumps, for example.
Ingredients
- Half a lemon; 1 cup with warm water.
How to prepare and take
Squeeze the lemon into the glass with water, stir well and drink immediately. Ideally, water with lemon should be taken on an empty stomach and about 15 minutes before breakfast, to produce the best effect.
This mixture, in addition to increasing the amount of urine, can also make you want to use the bathroom, as toxins are usually eliminated through the feces.
