Munchausen syndrome is a psychiatric illness, where the patient causes or simulates symptoms of diseases.
Individuals with Munchausen syndrome repeatedly invent diseases and often go from hospital to hospital in search of treatment and in addition to simulating diseases, they also have knowledge of medical practices, being able to manipulate their care to be hospitalized and subjected to treatment tests and even major surgeries.
Although the frauds of individuals with this syndrome are aware, they do not know why they do it.
There is a similar condition known as Munchausen syndrome by substitute, it has similar characteristics but in this case, a child is used as a passive patient, usually by a parent, who falsifies the child's medical history by concealing diseases that the child does not have.
