Ursofalk is a medicine indicated for the dissolution of stones in the gallbladder or other diseases of the gallbladder, treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis, treatment of poor digestion and qualitative changes in bile, among others.
This remedy has in its composition ursodeoxycholic acid, which is a substance physiologically present in human bile, although in a limited amount. This acid inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver and stimulates the synthesis of bile acids, restoring the balance between them. In addition, it also contributes to the solubilization of cholesterol by bile, preventing the formation of gallstones or favoring their dissolution.
What is it for
Ursodeoxycholic acid is a remedy that is indicated for diseases of the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, in the following situations:
- Gallstones formed by cholesterol in certain patients; Symptoms of primary biliary cirrhosis; Residual stone in the gallbladder channel or new stones formed after surgery of the bile ducts; Symptoms of poor digestion, such as abdominal pain, heartburn and infarction, caused by diseases of the gallbladder; Changes in the functioning of cystic conduit or gallbladder and associated syndromes; High levels of cholesterol or triglycerides; Supportive therapy in the dissolution of gallstones by shock waves, formed by cholesterol in patients who have cholelithiasis; Qualitative and quantitative changes in bile.

How to take
Ursofalk dosage should be determined by the doctor.
For prolonged use, to prevent the formation of stones, the average dosage is 5 to 10 mg / kg / day, the average dosage being, in most cases, between 300 to 600 mg, per day, for at least 4 to 6 months, reaching 12 months or more. Treatment should not exceed two years.
In dyspeptic syndromes and maintenance therapy, doses of 300 mg per day are generally sufficient, divided into 2 to 3 administrations, however these doses can be modified by the doctor.
In patients undergoing gallstone dissolution, it is important to check the effectiveness of ursodeoxycholic acid, through cholecystographic exams, every 6 months.
In the adjunctive therapy of shockwave dissolution of gallstones, previous treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid increases the results of therapy. The doses of ursodeoxycholic acid should be adjusted by the doctor, averaging 600 mg per day.
In primary biliary cirrhosis, doses can vary from 10 to 16 mg / kg / day, according to the stages of the disease. It is recommended to monitor the patients through liver function tests and bilirubin measurement.
The daily dose should be administered 2 or 3 times, depending on the presentation used, after meals.
Possible side effects
The most common side effect that can occur during treatment with Ursofalk is altered stool consistency, which can become more pasty, or diarrhea.
Who should not use
Ursofalk should not be used in cases of allergy to ursodeoxycholic acid or to any of the components of the formulation, people with active stage peptic ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease and other conditions of the small intestine, colon and liver, which may interfere with circulation enterohepatic bile salts, frequent biliary colic, acute inflammation of the gallbladder or biliary tract, biliary tract occlusion, compromised gallbladder contractility or radiopaque calcified gallstones.
