Felodipine is the active substance in the anti-depressant and anti-anginal Splendil.
This medicine can be found in pharmacies in the form of prolonged-release tablets.
Indications
Indicated in arterial hypertension, chronic stable angina pectoris (exercise angina).
Side effects
Headaches or peripheral swelling may occur.
Contraindications
In severe hypotension; pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How to use
The tablet should be swallowed whole without breaking or chewing.
In adults - in hypertension: start with 5 mg, in a single daily dose, and the dose is adjusted, if necessary, after 2 weeks of use, with maintenance doses of 5 to 10 mg; in angina: 10 mg in a single daily dose. The maximum single daily dose of 20 mg should not be exceeded.
The elderly should have their dosage monitored more rigorously since they can be more sensitive to the usual doses.
Other important information
- Do not interrupt medication without medical consultation; gradual dose reduction may be necessary.
