- In cases of fever, at what temperature should dipyrone be taken?
Dipyrone is an analgesic, antipyretic and spasmolytic medicine, widely used in the treatment of pain and fever, usually caused by flu and colds, for example.
Dipyrone can be purchased from conventional pharmacies under the brand name Novalgina, Anador, Baralgin, Magnopyrol or Nofebrin, in the form of drops, tablets, suppository or as an injection solution, for a price that can vary between 2 to 20 reais, depending on dosage and presentation.
What is it for
Dipyrone is indicated for the treatment of pain and fever. The analgesic and antipyretic effects can be expected 30 to 60 minutes after administration and generally last for about 4 hours.
How to take
The dosage depends on the dosage form used:

The recommended dose is 1 suppository, up to 4 times a day. If the effect of a single dose is insufficient or after the analgesic effect has decreased, the dose can be repeated with respect to the posology and the maximum daily dose.
6. Solution for injection
Injectable dipyrone can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly, with the person lying down and under medical supervision. In addition, intravenous administration must be very slow, at an infusion rate not exceeding 500 mg of dipyrone per minute, to prevent hypotensive reactions.
The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 15 years is 2 to 5 mL in a single dose, up to a maximum daily dose of 10 mL. In children and infants, the recommended dose depends on weight, as shown in the following table:

If parenteral administration of dipyrone is considered in infants from 5 to 8 kg, only the intramuscular route should be used.
How it works
Dipyrone is a substance with analgesic, antipyretic and spasmolytic effects. Dipyrone is a prodrug, which means that it only becomes active after it is ingested and metabolized.
Some studies suggest that the active metabolites of dipyrone act by inhibiting the enzymes cyclooxygenase (COX-1, COX-2 and COX-3), inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, preferably in the central nervous system and desensitizing the receptors of peripheral pain, involving activity via nitric oxide-cGMP in the pain receptor.
Possible side effects
Side effects of Dipyrone include hives, low blood pressure, kidney and urinary disorders, vascular disorders and severe allergic reaction.
Who should not use
Dipyrone is contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding and in people with allergies to sodium dipyrone or any of the components of the formula, asthma, acute intermittent liver porphyria and congenital glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
Patients who have developed bronchospasm or other anaphylactic reactions with painkillers, such as salicylates, paracetamol, diclofenac, ibuprofen, indomethacin and naproxen, should also not take sodium dipyrone.
In cases of fever, at what temperature should dipyrone be taken?
Fever is a symptom that needs to be controlled only if it causes discomfort or compromises the person's general condition. Thus, dipyrone should only be used in these situations or if indicated by the doctor.
