Diprospan is a corticosteroid medication that contains betamethasone dipropionate and betamethasone disodium phosphate, two anti-inflammatory substances that decrease inflammation in the body and can be used in cases of acute or chronic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, asthma or dermatitis, for example.
Although this medicine can be purchased at the pharmacy for around 15 reais, it is sold as an injection and, therefore, it should only be used with a medical indication and administered at the hospital, or at a health post, by a nurse or doctor.
What is it for
Diprospan is recommended to relieve symptoms in cases of:
- Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis; Bursitis; Spondylitis; Sciatica; Fascitis; Torticollis; Fascitis; Asthma; Rhinitis; Insect bites; Dermatitis; Lupus; Psoriasis.
In addition, it can also be used to treat some malignant tumors, such as leukemia or lymphoma, along with medical treatment.
How it should be used
Diprospan is used through an injection, which contains 1 to 2 ml, being applied to the gluteal muscle by a nurse or doctor.
Possible side effects
Some side effects that Diprospan can cause include sodium and fluid retention, which causes bloating, potassium loss, congestive heart failure in susceptible patients, high blood pressure, muscle weakness and loss, worsening of symptoms in myasthenia gravis, osteoporosis, mainly bone fractures long, tendon rupture, hemorrhage, ecchymosis, facial erythema, increased sweating and headache.
Who should not use
The drug is contraindicated for children under 15 and in patients with systemic yeast infections, in patients with hypersensitivity to betamethasone dipropionate, betamethasone disodium phosphate, other corticosteroids or to any of the components of the formula.
