Fluoxetine

Fluoxetine is an oral antidepressant that can be found in the form of 10 mg or 20 mg tablets or in drops, and can also be used to treat bulimia nervosa.

Fluoxetine is an antidepressant similar to Sertraline, having the same effect. Fluoxetine's trade names are Prozac, Fluxene, Verotina or Eufor 20, and it is also found as a generic medicine.

Fluoxetine Indications

Fluoxetine is indicated for clinically diagnosed depression, bulimia nervosa, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and menstrual disorder.

How to use Fluoxetine

Fluoxetine, for adult use, should be used as follows:

Depression: 20 mg / day; Bulimia nervosa: 60 mg / day; Obsessive compulsive disorder: from 20 to 60 mg / day; Menstrual disorder: 20mg / day.

The tablets can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects of Fluoxetine

Side effects of Fluoxetine include dry mouth; indigestion; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; constipation; changes in taste and anorexia.

Fluoxetine does not normally give you sleep, but at the beginning of the treatment the individual may feel more sleepy, however with the continuation of the treatment the sleepiness tends to disappear.

Tryptophan supplementation is not recommended as it increases the intensity of adverse effects. St. John's wort should not be consumed with Fluoxetine as it is harmful to health.

Contraindications for Fluoxetine

Fluoxetine is contraindicated during lactation and in the case of the individual taking other drugs of the class of MAOIs, Monoaminoxidase Inhibitors.

During treatment with Fluoxetine, one should avoid alcohol intake and be cautious in the case of diabetes diagnosis, as it can cause hypoglycemia.
