Leboyer childbirth, also called childbirth without violence or being born smiling, is one in which attention is directed to the baby's comfort, making his first experience outside the womb more pleasant.
How Leboyer delivery is done
Leboyer delivery is done with some small precautions, such as:
- Little light, so that it does not harm the baby's eyes, which was only used to the gloom; With the least possible noise; Instead of patting the baby on the back, a gentle massage is done to stimulate the lungs; Only after the umbilical cord stops pulsating, it is cut, facilitating the transition of breathing.
After these steps, the baby is wrapped and given to the mother who must breastfeed him as soon as possible. The first bath can be given by the father and mother and the baby are in joint accommodation. The baby is placed in a small cradle next to the mother's bed, which favors breastfeeding, reduces the baby's stress and increases the emotional bond with the parents.
Leboyer delivery can be done in water, during normal delivery or cesarean delivery.
This style of delivery was first described by Frederick Leboyer, the same obstetrician who showed shantala massage to the west.
