Insect bites cause painful reactions and discomfort, which can be mitigated with home remedies based on lavender, witch hazel or oats, for example.
However, if the insect bite develops into a severe allergic reaction or if other symptoms develop, you should immediately go to the doctor, as natural measures will not be sufficient to treat the problem.
1. Lavender compress
Lavender is a great option for insect bites, due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and tea tree is antiseptic.
Ingredients
- 4 drops of lavender essential oil; 4 drops of tea tree essential oil; 2.5 L of water.
Method of preparation
To prepare this home remedy, just add the essential oils to the cold water and mix well. Then, a clean towel should be moistened in the solution and applied over the affected area, leaving it to act for approximately 10 minutes. This procedure must be repeated 2 times a day.
2. Herbal lotion
Witch hazel is a mild astringent and helps to alleviate inflammation, peppermint soothes irritated skin and relieves itching and lavender is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.
Ingredients
- 30 mL of witch hazel extract; 20 drops of peppermint essential oil; 20 drops of lavender essential oil.
Method of preparation
Mix the ingredients in a jar, shake well and apply with a little cotton whenever necessary.
3. Oatmeal bath
A soothing bath with oatmeal and lavender essential oil alleviates itching and irritation caused by hives.
Ingredients
- 200 g of oat flakes; 10 drops of lavender essential oil.
Method of preparation
Grind the oats in a mill, until you get a fine flour and pour into a bathtub with warm water together with lavender oil. Then just immerse the area to be treated for 20 minutes and dry the skin without rubbing.
