An excellent home remedy for burns on the skin, caused by the sun or by contact with water or oil, is the banana peel, as it relieves pain and prevents the formation of blisters, being excellent for 2nd degree burns. But other good options are aloe vera and lettuce leaves, for example.

Before using a home remedy the most important thing is to remove the clothes that are on the place, as long as they are not glued to the wound, and place the burned skin under cold water for about 20 minutes. See step-by-step instructions on what to do when you burn.

Ideally, home remedies should only be used when the skin is healthy, since if there are wounds, there is a greater risk of infection, and the treatment should always be done by a nurse. Thus, this type of homemade options is more suitable for 1st and 2nd degree burns, as long as they do not have any wound on the spot or skin loss.

1. Banana peel

The banana peel has a substance called leukocyanidin that is widely used in the treatment of wounds and burns and, therefore, can be used as a home remedy to speed healing and prevent blisters.

Ingredient

  • 1 banana peel

Method of preparation

With the help of a knife, carefully remove the layer that lines the inside of the banana peel and place on the burn. Then cover with sterile gauze and replace, if necessary, after 2 hours. Repeat the procedure several times a day.

2. Aloe vera gel

Aloe vera poultice is an excellent natural remedy for burns because this plant has, inside its leaves, a gel that is moisturizing and soothing to the skin, helping with healing and reducing burn pain.

Ingredient

  • 1 leaf of aloe

Method of preparation

Remove the thorns and cut the leaf in half, lengthwise. Then scrape the gel, which is inside the sheet, and place it on a sterile compress or gauze, covering the skin next. This poultice must be changed at least twice a day.

3. Lettuce poultice

Another good home remedy for burns is the poultice of lettuce, especially in case of sunburn, as this is a vegetable with properties that help to rejuvenate the skin and relieve the burn symptoms due to its analgesic action.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons (2 tablespoons) olive oil

Method of preparation

Macerate the lettuce leaves with the olive oil and then place the mixture in a sterile compress and apply over the burn. The poultice must be changed twice a day.

These home remedies are indicated to treat minor and minor burns, because the most serious burns need medical or nursing care. The benefits of curcumin, the main ingredient of turmeric in burning, are being studied, having achieved excellent results, but curcumin-based ointment is not yet ready to be commercialized.
