The foods indicated to prevent prostate cancer are those rich in lycopene, such as tomatoes and papaya, and those rich in fiber and antioxidants, such as fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts, which must be consumed regularly in order to be able to act in prevention.
Prostate cancer affects mainly men over 40 and a family history of cancer, and is linked to a diet rich in processed foods such as fast food, and meats such as sausage and sausage, for example.
Watch the video that talks about this subject:
1. Tomato: lycopene
Tomatoes are the richest food in lycopene, a nutrient with the greatest antioxidant power to protect prostate cells against harmful changes, such as the uncontrolled multiplications that occur in tumor growth. In addition to preventing cancer, lycopene also works by lowering (bad) LDL cholesterol and protecting the body from cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack.
The amount of lycopene that must be consumed to prevent cancer is 35 mg per day, which is equivalent to 12 tomatoes or 230 ml of tomato extract. This nutrient is more available when the food is subjected to high temperatures, which is why tomato sauce has more lycopene than fresh tomatoes. In addition to tomatoes and their derivatives, other foods rich in lycopene are guava, papaya, cherry and watermelon.
2. Brazil nuts: selenium
Selenium is a mineral found mainly in Brazil nuts and that helps prevent cancer by participating in the programmed death of cells, inhibiting cell reproduction, acting as an antioxidant. In addition to chestnuts, it is also present in foods such as wheat flour, egg yolk and chicken. See selenium-rich foods.
3. Cruciferous Vegetables: sulforaphane
Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and kale are rich in the nutrients sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol, nutrients with antioxidant effect and that stimulate the programmed death of prostate cells, preventing their multiplication in tumors.
4. Green tea: isoflavones and polyphenols
Isoflavones and polyphenols have antioxidant, antiproliferative and stimulating programmed cell death, known as apoptosis.
In addition to green tea, these nutrients are also present in most fruits and vegetables, soy beans and red wine.
5. Fish: omega-3
Omega-3 is a type of good fat that acts as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, improving cell health and preventing diseases such as cancer and heart problems. It is present in saltwater fish such as salmon, tuna and sardines, as well as in foods such as flaxseed and chia.
Along with increased consumption of fruits, vegetables and green tea, it is also important to reduce the intake of saturated fats, which are present mainly in red meats, bacon, sausages such as sausage, sausage and ham, fast food and industrialized foods rich in fat such as lasagna and frozen pizzas.
In addition to food, it is important to have a prostate cancer prevention exam with the urologist and know the first symptoms of this disease, so that it can be identified early. Check out in the following video which exams should be done:
