Alteplase is the name of the substance that destroys blood thrombi. It can be found in pharmacies under the name Actilyse and does not have a generic.
Alteplase is presented in powder for reconstitution in sodium chloride, glucose or sterile water. This thrombolytic enzyme should not be used if the vial with the preparation powder is vacuum-free.
Indications
Acute coronary occlusion (of thrombotic origin).

Bleeding.
Contraindications
Pregnancy risk C; sickle cell anemia; aneurysm; severe diabetes mellitus; for 2 months after an intracerebral or intraspinal surgery; bacterial endocarditis; severe cerebrovascular problems; cerebral hemorrhage; severe internal bleeding (current or recent); severe liver disease; severe uncontrolled hypertension; arteriovenous malformation; acute pancreatitis; hemorrhagic problems; recent severe trauma or major surgery (depending on severity, up to 6 days later); hemorrhagic diabetic retinopathy; brain tumour.
How to use
Adults: 100 mg over a three-hour period:
- 10 mg direct intravenous for 1 to 2 minutes, 50 mg for 60 minutes, 40 mg for 120 minutes.
Children: Effectiveness and safety not established.
