Mucosolvan is a medicine that has the active ingredient Ambroxol hydrochloride, a substance that is able to make respiratory secretions more liquid, facilitating them to be eliminated with cough. In addition, it also improves the opening of the bronchi, decreasing the symptoms of shortness of breath, and has a slight anesthetic effect, decreasing irritation of the throat.
This medicine can be purchased in conventional pharmacies without a prescription, in the form of syrup, drops or capsules, and the syrup and drops can be used on babies over 2 years of age. The price of Mucosolvan varies between 15 and 30 reais, depending on the form of presentation and the place of purchase.
How to take
The way of using Mucosolvan varies according to the form of presentation:
1. Mucosolvan adult syrup
- Half a measuring cup, about 5 ml, should be taken 3 times a day.
2. Mucosolvan pediatric syrup
- Children between 2 and 5 years old: should take 1/4 of a measuring cup, about 2.5 ml, 3 times a day. Children between 5 and 10 years of age: should take half a measuring cup, about 5 ml, 3 times a day.
3. Mucosolvan drops
- Children between 2 and 5 years: should take 25 drops, about 1 ml, 3 times a day. Children between 5 and 10 years old: should take 50 drops, about 2 ml, 3 times a day. Adults and adolescents: should take approximately 100 drops, approximately 4 ml, 3 times a day.
If necessary, the drops can be diluted in tea, fruit juice, milk or water to facilitate taking them.
4. Mucosolvan capsules
- Children over 12 and adults should take 1 75 mg capsule daily.
The capsules should be swallowed whole, together with a glass of water, without breaking or chewing.
Possible side effects
