Fluorouracil is a drug for injectable or topical use, which has Fluouracil as its active substance. This medicine is also known commercially as Efurix.
This is an antineoplastic drug, which acts by preventing the spread and helping in the treatment of cancer cells.
Fluorouracil indications
Colon and rectal cancer; breast cancer; anal cancer; fall in the pancreas; stomach cancer head and neck cancer; liver cancer; Ovary cancer; actinic keratosis.
Side Effects of Fluorouracil
Diarrhea; vomiting; nausea; mouth sores; lack of appetite; watery eyes; sensitivity to light; changes in taste; metallic taste in the mouth during administration of the medicine; discoloration along the vein through which the medication is given; anemia; infections: bleeding.
Contraindications for Fluorouracil
Risk pregnancy D; lactating women; hypersensitivity to Fluorouracil.
How to use Fluorouracil
Injectable use
Adult
- Administer 7 to 12 mg per kg of body weight over 4 days. Take a 3-day break, then administer 7 to 10 mg per body weight daily for 2 weeks.
It is not recommended to use the same vein for repeated applications.
Topical Use
- Actinic keratosis: Apply the medication to the lesions with a thin layer of the product, twice a day.
Care must be taken when handling the medication, gloves must be worn and hands must be washed well after application.
