Nystatin gel to cure oral candidiasis

Nystatin gel, found in pharmacies like Micostatin or Nidazolin is a good strategy to treat thrush faster. Nystatin gel is an antifungal that must be applied directly to the lesions of the mouth and tongue of children or adults.

The advantage of this treatment is that it is simpler to apply making healing of the thrush faster, and therefore decreases the chance of the thrush appearing again.

Oral candidiasis can appear in both children and adults, although it is usually more common in children and babies, as they do not yet have a fully developed and strong immune system, causing symptoms such as the formation of white plaques in the mouth, in addition to red spots, which can cause tongue pain and even difficulty swallowing.

How to apply the gel to treat thrush

To treat oral candidiasis it is necessary before applying gel to brush your teeth and tongue. In the case of babies or elderly people who have no teeth, you should clean the gums, cheek and tongue with a cotton diaper or moist gauze, for example.

The gel should be applied directly to the lesions of the mouth and tongue with a clean gauze wrapped around the index finger, about 4 times a day.

After one week the thrush should be cured, if the treatment is done correctly.

This gel should not be swallowed immediately after application, and should be kept in the mouth as long as possible although it is not toxic if swallowed, which is especially the case with babies.

Nystatin can be found in the form of a liquid to rinse, it is also effective for the treatment of oral candidiasis, but in liquid form, it has a very unpleasant taste making it difficult to adhere to treatment and cure the infection.

The medicine to treat thrush in the form of gel or ointment is more effective than medicine in liquid solution for rinsing, as it is applied directly to lesions of the mouth and tongue and, therefore, is more easily absorbed. In addition, treatment adherence is greater, decreasing the chances of having a thrush again, as it is not necessary to rinse the medicine, which has a very unpleasant taste, being very effective in children.
