Trifluoperazine

Trifluoperazine is an active substance in an antipsychotic medication known commercially as Stelazine.

This medication for oral use is indicated for the treatment of anxiety and schizophrenia, its action serves to block the impulses generated by the neurotransmitter dopamine in brain functioning.

How to use Trifluoperazine

Oral use

Adults and Children over 12 years

• Non-psychotic anxiety (hospitalized and outpatients): Start with 1 or 2 mg twice a day. In patients with more severe conditions, it may be necessary to reach up to 4 mg per day, divided into 2 doses. Never exceed 5 mg per day, or prolong treatment for more than 12 weeks, in cases of anxiety. Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders in outpatients (but under close medical supervision): 1 to 2 mg; 2 times per day; the dose can be increased according to the patient's needs. Hospitalized patients: 2 to 5 mg, 2 times a day; dose can be increased up to 40 mg per day, divided into 2 doses.

Children from 6 to 12 years old

• Psychosis (patients hospitalized or under close medical supervision): 1 mg, 1 or 2 times a day; the dose can be gradually increased up to 15 mg per day; divided into 2 outlets.
