Tylenol is a drug that has paracetamol in its composition, with analgesic and antipyretic action, used to lower fever and relieve mild to moderate pain, such as headaches, menstrual pain or toothache, for example, in adults and children.
This medicine can be purchased in pharmacies for a price of about 4 to 27 reais, which will depend on the dosage and size of the package, and can also be obtained in generic, for a lower price.
What is it for
Tylenol is indicated for the reduction of fever, for the relief of mild to moderate pain associated with the common cold and flu, headache, toothache, back pain, muscle pain, pain associated with arthritis, menstrual pain, post-surgical pain and sore throat.
How to use
The dosage depends on the pharmaceutical form to be used:
1. Pills
For adults and children over 12 years of age, the recommended dose of Tylenol 500 mg is 1 to 2 tablets, 3 to 4 times a day and Tylenol 750 mg is 1 tablet, 3 to 5 times a day.
2. Drops
The drops can be used by adults and children:
- Adults and children over 12 years: 35 to 55 drops, 3 to 5 times a day, not exceeding a total of 5 administrations in a day; Children under 12 years: 1 drop per kg of weight, per dose, every 4 to 6 hours, not exceeding 35 drops per dose and 5 administrations in one day.
3. Oral suspension
- Children under 12: 10 to 15 mg per kg and per dose, every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 5 administrations in one day.

For children under 11 kg or 2 years, the dose should be prescribed and guided by the pediatrician. During the use of paracetamol alcoholic beverages should not be consumed and, in the case of chronic alcoholic patients, doses greater than 2 grams of paracetamol per day are not advised, because of the toxic effects of the drug on the liver.
Possible side effects
Although it is rare, during treatment with Tylenol, side effects such as hives, itching, redness in the body, allergic reactions and increased transaminases can occur.
Who should not use
Tylenol should not be used by people who are hypersensitive to the components of the formula and in children under 12 years of age, in the case of tablets.
In children under 2 years of age, drops or oral suspension should only be given if recommended by the doctor.
