Juniper is a medicinal plant similar to a shrub or a small tree with a cone-shaped crown. It has a straight trunk with many branches with pointed leaves and yellow-green flowers. Its fruits are round and bluish or black, being quite aromatic, and widely used in decoration.
The juniper infusion can be used as a home remedy for digestion, vaginal discharge and can also be used in bath water, between 100 to 200 mL, to cure muscle problems, rheumatism and tendonitis.
Juniper grows in the more temperate regions of Brazil and its fruit can be purchased at health food stores or street markets.

Juniper is used to treat digestive problems, helping with digestion due to its ability to produce hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It also has some nutrients and oils that come together to increase appetite in individuals without hunger.
When used in the form of a cream it is a great ointment for acne and various skin problems, such as allergies and also to help prevent dandruff on the scalp. Its tea facilitates the functioning of the kidneys and leads to the production of urine, being included in the treatment of some urinary problems or for the treatment of sore throat, due to its anti-inflammatory property.

How to use juniper
The used part of the juniper is its whole or powdered fruit, to make teas, tinctures and infusions.
- Juniper infusion: put 2 grams of juniper berries in a cup of boiling water and cover. Let stand for 10 minutes and filter. Drink 15 minutes before meals.
Side effects of juniper
The side effects of juniper appear when the plant is consumed in excessive amounts and for more than 6 months. They can range from kidney and gastrointestinal problems to increased uterine contractions, abortion and bladder irritation.
Juniper contraindications
The main contraindications for juniper are that this plant should not be taken by patients with nephritis or pregnant women. Its essence should not be used because it is highly toxic.
