Dapsone is an anti-infectious remedy that contains diaminodiphenylsulfone, a substance that eliminates the bacteria responsible for leprosy and that allows to relieve the symptoms of autoimmune diseases such as herpetiform dermatitis.
This medicine is also known as FURP-dapsone and is produced in the form of tablets.
Price
This medicine cannot be purchased in conventional pharmacies, being only offered by SUS in the hospital, after the diagnosis of the disease.
What is it for
Dapsone is indicated for the treatment of all forms of leprosy, also known as leprosy, and herpetiform dermatitis.
How to take
The use of this medication should always be guided by a doctor. However, general indications indicate:
Leprosy
- Adults: 1 tablet per day; Children: 1 to 2 mg per kg, daily.
Herpetiform dermatitis
In these cases, the dose should be adapted according to the response of each organism, and, normally, treatment is started with a dose of 50 mg per day, which can be increased up to 300 mg.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects include dark spots on the skin, anemia, frequent infections, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, tingling, insomnia and changes in the liver.
Who cannot take
This remedy should not be used in cases of severe anemia or advanced renal amyloidosis, as well as in case of allergy to any component of the formula.
In the case of pregnant women and women breastfeeding, this medication should only be used with the indication of the doctor.
