Diltiazem, sold as Cardizem, is an antianginal and vasodilator drug.
Indications
High blood pressure, angina pectoris.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, lactation, severe hypotension, sinus node disease, acute myocardial infarction, pulmonary congestion, 2nd and 3rd degree atrioventricular block without a pacemaker.
Adverse effects
Bradycardia, atrio-ventricular block, dizziness, tremor, headache, weakness, dry mouth, nausea, heart failure, palpitations, sleep disorders, nervousness, drowsiness, hives, photosensitivity reactions, petechiae alopecia, ecchymosis, sexual dysfunction.
How to use
Hypertension: 60 to 120mg 3 times a day before meals.
Angina: 30mg 4 times a day, before meals.
