Theracort

Theracort is a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has Triamcinolone as its active substance.

This medicine can be found for topical use or in suspension for injection. Topical use is indicated for skin infections such as dermatitis and psoriasis. Its action relieves itching and reduces edema.

Theracort indications

Alopecia areata; dermatitis; nummular eczema; psoriasis; lichen; lupus erythematosus. Injectable suspension is also indicated in cases of allergic rhinitis (seasonal or perennial), serum sickness, chronic bronchial asthma, hay fever, allergic bronchitis.

The 25 g tube of Theracort topical use costs approximately 25 reais, while the injectable suspension can cost around 35 reais.

Maceration; infection; atrophy; stretch mark; small spots on the skin.

Contraindications for Theracort

Pregnancy risk C; lactating women; Hipersensibility to any of the formula's components. In the case of the use of injectable suspension, it is also contraindicated in cases of latent or newly treated tuberculosis, local or systemic infection by viruses, acute psychosis, active peptic ulcer, acute glomerulonephritis and active infection not controlled by antibiotics.

How to use Theracort

Topical Use

Adults

• Apply a light layer of the medicine, lightly rubbing the affected area. The procedure should be done 1 to 2 times a day.

Injectable use

Adults

• 40 to 80 mg deeply applied to the gluteal muscle. The dose can be repeated at 4-week intervals, if necessary.

Pediatric

• 0.03 to 0.2 mg per kilogram of weight repeated at intervals of 1 to 7 days. Use is not recommended for children up to 6 years of age:

Injectable Theracort must be applied intramuscularly. The appropriate dose is individual and depends on the disease to be treated and the patient's response.
