Cisplatin (platiran)

Cisplatin is an antineoplastic remedy for intravenous administration that acts by interfering with cell multiplication and is therefore widely used in the treatment of various types of tumor.

Cisplatin cannot be purchased at the pharmacy, as it must be administered at the hospital by a doctor or nurse. Cisplatin can be found under the trade names Platiran, Unistin, Astaplatin, C-platin, Cisplatex or Tecnoplatin.

The price of cisplatin is approximately 60 reais per 20 ml, however, the value may vary according to the dosage and the trademark of the drug.

Indications for cisplatin

Cisplatin is indicated for the treatment of metastatic tumors of the testis, metastatic tumors of the ovary, advanced bladder cancer and squamous cell carcinomas of the head or neck.

How cisplatin is used

Cisplatin should only be administered in the hospital by health professionals experienced in chemotherapy, such as a doctor or nurse.

Side effects of cisplatin

The main side effects of cisplatin include tinnitus, decreased hearing, anemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, loss of taste, seizures, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and swelling of the face.

Contraindications for cisplatin

Cisplatin is contraindicated for pregnant women, breastfeeding women and patients with kidney failure, hearing loss, myelodepression or a history of allergy to any medication with platinum in its composition.
