To improve the health of the pregnant woman and, consequently, the baby's health, the pregnant woman must take certain precautions such as:
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages, as alcohol can affect the baby's physical and mental development; Do not smoke or avoid contact with smokers as substances from cigarettes can impair the development of the fetus, increase the risk of low birth weight, abortion and premature birth; Avoid caffeine; Drink about 2 liters of water a day; Eat foods such as fish, lean meat such as turkey or chicken, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, milk and derivatives and legumes; Do not drink stimulating drinks like coca-cola, black tea or green tea; Avoid sun exposure between 10 am and 4 pm; Put on sunscreen every day and apply every 3/4 hours.
Physical exercise such as walking, swimming, water aerobics, stretching or Pilates also help to improve the pregnant woman's health. However, it is very important that the exercises are monitored by a physical educator or physiotherapist in order not to jeopardize the health of the pregnant woman and the baby.
