What is it for and how to use alfaestradiol

Anonim

Alphaestradiol is a medicine marketed under the name Avicis, in solution form, which is indicated for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in men and women, which is characterized by hair loss caused by hormonal factors.

This medicine can be purchased in pharmacies, for a price of about 135 reais, upon presentation of a prescription.

How to use

The product should be applied to the scalp, once a day, preferably at night, with the help of the applicator, for about 1 minute, so that approximately 3 mL of the solution reaches the scalp.

After applying alfaestradiol, massage the scalp in order to improve the absorption of the solution and wash your hands at the end. The product can be applied to dry or wet hair, but if it is used right after bathing, you should dry your hair well with a towel before applying.

How it works

Alphaestradiol works by inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase in the skin, which is an enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. Dihydrotestosterone is a hormone that accelerates the hair cycle, leading more quickly to the telogenic phase and, consequently, to hair loss. Thus, by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, the drug prevents dihydrotestosterone from causing hair loss.

Who should not use

This medicine should not be used by people who are hypersensitive to the components of the formula, pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 18 years of age.

Possible side effects

Some side effects that may occur during treatment with alfaestradiol are discomfort of the scalp skin, such as burning, itching or redness, which may be due to the presence of alcohol in the solution, and are generally transient symptoms. However, if these symptoms persist, you should go to the doctor and stop the medication.
