Cephalothin is an injectable medicine known commercially as Keflin.
This is an antibacterial medication, which works by eliminating bacteria and other microorganisms from the body, which are usually the cause of skin infections, pneumonia and urinary tract infections.
Cephalothin indications
Joint infection; infection of the skin and soft tissues; bone infection; urinary infection; post-surgery infections; pneumonia; generalized infection.
Side effects of cephalothin
Diarrhea; gastrointestinal disorders; allergies at the injection site.
Contraindications for Cephalothin
Pregnancy risk B; lactating women; individuals allergic to Penicillin.
How to use cephalothin
Injectable use
Adults
- Pneumonia and urinary tract infection: Administer 500 mg every 6 hours. Severe infection: 500 mg to 1 g, every 4 hours.
Children
- 15 to 25 mg per kg of body weight every 4 hours or 20 to 40 mg per kg of body weight every 6 hours.
The injection can be applied to the muscle or veins, but the administration to the muscles is very painful, avoiding it whenever possible, especially in children.
After application, put ice on the spot. It is important not to give the injection always in the same place, to avoid irritation of the muscle tissue.
