Cefpodoxima is a medicine known commercially as Orelox.
This medication is an antibacterial for oral use, which decreases the symptoms of bacterial infections shortly after its ingestion, this is due to the ease with which this medication is absorbed by the intestine.
Cefpodoxin is used to treat tonsillitis, pneumonia and otitis.
Indications for Cefpodoxima
Amigadalite; otitis; bacterial pneumonia; sinusitis; pharyngitis.
Side effects of Cefpodoxime
Diarrhea; nausea; vomiting.
Contraindications for Cefpodoxima
Pregnancy risk B; lactating women; hypersensitivity to penicillin derivatives.
How to use Cefpodoxima
Oral use
Adults
- Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis: Administer 500 mg every 24 hours for 10 days. Bronchitis: Administer 500 mg every 12 hours for 10 days. Acute sinusitis: Administer 250 to 500 mg every 12 hours for 10 days. Infection of the skin and soft tissues: Administer 250 to 500 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 24 hours for 10 days. Urinary tract infection (uncomplicated): Administer 500 mg every 24 hours.
Seniors
- Decreasing may be necessary in order not to alter the functioning of the kidneys. Administer according to medical advice.
Children
- Otitis media (between 6 months and 12 years of age): Administer 15 mg per kg of body weight every 12 hours for 10 days. Pharyngitis and tonsillitis (between 2 and 12 years of age): Administer 7.5 mg per kg of body weight every 12 hours for 10 days. Acute sinusitis (between 6 months and 12 years of age): Administer 7.5 mg to 15 mg per kg of body weight every 12 hours for 10 days. Infection of the skin and soft tissues (between 2 and 12 years of age): Administer 20 mg per kg of body weight every 24 hours for 10 days.
